CCOT Optical Fitting Program

Optical technician certificate programs offered by Al Salama, teaches students to use manual and computerized equipment to produce prescription lenses for eyeglasses and contact lenses. After receiving a prescription, the technician obtains lens blanks and makes the calculations on grinding lenses to the desired specifications. The optical technician uses a lens meter to inspect completed lenses and may then apply protective coating before shaping the lenses to fit eyeglass frames, cameras or telescopes. They also repair damaged eyeglasses. Preparing individuals to create lenses for many different industries obviously requires the use of machines that perform tasks like cutting, grinding, edging and finishing. This is why at Al Salama, hands-on laboratory experiences are offered, helping students enhance their skills before entering the workplace. Program Length of CCOT is 2 months. (1 week theory + 7 week practical session)
